I was reading this article today, and I was struck again by how much I dislike politicians. In three years the percentage of Republicans who believed in global warming dropped from 62% to 53%. Since the majority of scientists agree that the evidence points to man-made global warming, I’m forced to conclude that the main reason these guys have started to deny global warming is to appeal to an increasingly polar conservative base. I don’t buy the fact that the leaked emails that allegedly showed data-fixing in climate change experiments did the damage. Those scientists were cleared of that, which means if these politicians did change their mind because of alleged data manipulation they are still ignoring the evidence in favor of believing what they want.
What that tells me is that a significant number of GOP members are willing to risk the future of the planet to appeal to their base and win an election.
That’s just sick. Climate change is something potentially very, very dangerous, not only for the future of the United States, but for the entire world. And these people are willing to ignore that?
Sorry Earth, better luck next time…

Sad, but true, bud. That’s the whole point of having a handful or more people running for president on each side. Biden, Clinton, Obama, etc. The party itself chooses who they want to run in the end, and who they want to sit out so the others can look better (get more votes to see really who people would vote more towards, broader numbers mean more accuracy). They do not choose base on policies directly, but how people respond to whoever the candidate is.
How this effects the other party, or the world in general is of no concern to them. They win, they get paid more. They win, they control more of the senate or house, and companies bribe them to vote favorably towards them, equaling yet more money. When someone asked McCain when he was running against health care reform about getting paid several millions by health-related companies on top of the hundreds of thousands a year all congress people are paid, he was arrogantly surprised to even be asked, as if he was mad someone even noticed that the health care bill he was voting down might have some connection to the amount of cash he was being paid by the same health companies that would lose profit if the bill passed. Stuff like that and this open denial of fact of global warming exists ticks me off to no end.
